Capillary columns according to analytical purpose
Our special purpose capillary columns are coated with stationary phases developed for specific analytical purposes. HR columns possess higher levels of sensitivity and separation performance in comparison with general purpose columns.

Fatty Acid Methyl Ester Analyses

ULBON HR-SS-10

To the application of this productReference

ULBON HR-Thermon-3000B

To the application of this productReference

In recent years, the analysis of fatty acid methyl esters using GC capillary columns has become an important method in the field of biochemistry. In particular, the separation of cis, trans, and positional isomers is indispensable for analyses of fatty acid esters.
We currently have two types of capillary columns available, the ULBON HR-SS-10 and the ULBON HR-Thermon-3000B*, which are designed specifically for analyses of fatty acid esters.

*The ULBON HR-Thermon-3000B is an improved version of its predecessor the ULBON HR-Thermon-3000A, which provides greater levels of stability and performance.

These capillary columns can be used for a wide range of general purposes in addition to specialized analyses.

Perfume and Essential Oil Analyses

ULBON HR-Thermon-600T

To the application of this productReference

Capillary gas chromatography is now an indispensable tool in the analysis of essential oils and perfumes.
The major components of essential oils and perfumes are terpenes, hydrocarbons possessing chain or cyclic structures with the chemical formula (C5H8)n, and their derivatives which are chemically unstable alcohols, aldehydes, and ketones.
Capillary gas chromatography analyses of essential oils and perfumes containing these kinds of major components particularly require stable, high separation capacity capillary columns with superior inner surface inertness, and that are capable of performing high sensitivity and high accuracy quantitative analyses. As a superior capillary column designed specifically for essential oils and perfumes, we recommend the ULBON HR-Thermon-600T for your analysis applications.

Organic Mercury (Methyl and Ethylmercury) and Tributyltin Analyses

ULBON HR-Thermon-HG

To the application of this productReference

The ULBON HR-Thermon-HG is the optimum column for analyses of organic mercury compounds subject to regulation, as well as harmful tributyltin compounds used as antifouling agents for fishing nets and in ship bottom paints.
In analyses of TBTC (tributyltin chloride) and alkylmercury compounds, the use of packed column results in poor separation reproducibility due to the adsorption of sample materials.
The ULBON HR-Thermon-HG displays only extremely low levels of sample adsorption, thus enabling good quantitative reproducibility and high sensitivity analyses. In particular, the ULBON HR-Thermon-HG displays superior separation abilities in analyses of tributyltin chloride in comparison with packed columns due to the almost complete absence of decomposition and adsorption phenomena.

Triglyceride Analyses (Deactivated Stainless Steel Column)

ULBON HR-TGC1

To the application of this productReference

Fused silica columns consisting of high purity silica inner surfaces and polyimide outer coatings are widely used as capillary columns. However, these columns were not capable of withstanding high-temperature analyses required for compounds with boiling points higher than 350℃, and were also prone to breaking.
Columns with high-temperature polyimide coatings and exterior aluminium coatings have been developed to compensate for these drawbacks, but have been unable to provide heat resistance at analytical temperatures higher than 380℃ as well as resolve breakage problems during use.
As a capillary column designed for high-temperature analyses, we have released a completely internally inert stainless steel column which provides levels of performance equivalent to or surpassing fused silica columns. This product employs stainless steel columns with inner and outer diameters of 0.25 and 0.5 mm, can be subjected to analytical temperatures higher than 400℃, and provides excellent mechanical strength.
The ULBON HR TGC-1 is an inert, heat-resistant stainless steel capillary column designed specifically for high-temperature analyses.

Alkylphenol Analyses

These are WCOT capillary columns that our company has designed for specialized analyses.

ULBON ALPhen

To the application of this productReference

Isomers of alkylphenol compounds such as cresol, xylenes, and ethylphenols which are difficult substances to analyze can be completely separated using ULBON ALPhen columns.

  1. All isomers of xylenol (six isomers) can be separated using ULBON ALPhen columns, and 2,4-xylenoland 2,5-xylenol in particular can be resolved completely.
  2. Excellent separation of isomers of cresol and ethylphenol.

ALPhen columns can provide you with the best possible analyses of the alkylphenols shown above.

Xylene Isomer Analyses

ULBON Xylene Master

To the application of this productReference

  1. Xylene Master displays superior separation performance due to its relative retention value of approximately 1.1 for isomers of xylene.
  2. The large separation capacity of the Xylene Master capillary column and an inactive surface consisting of fused silica used as a base material enable trace analyses of samples with concentrations as low as several ppm.
  3. The maximum operating temperature is 160°C. The heat resistance of the Xylene Master is higher than that of columns with phthalic acid ester stationary phases designed for general analyses. Consequently, this column can also be used for analyses of alkyl benzene isomers with high boiling points.

Separations of Impurities in p-Xylene

ULBON SPX-1 (SUS)

To the application of this productReference

  1. For separations of impurities (e.g., m-xylene, cumene, etc.) in p-xylene.
  2. SPX-1 is a WCOT type stainless steel (SUS) capillary column coated with a halogenated phthalic acid ester stationary phase.
  3. In analyses of m-xylene in p-xylene, because p-xylene is eluted before m-xylene, separations are very difficult in normal GC analyses even using capillary columns.
In particular, analyses of trace amounts of m-xylene are said to be extremely difficult. Trace amounts of m-xylene are eluted before p-xylene on the SPX-1, allowing for quantitative analyses.
